Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Handayani Prima, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of Jakarta, specifically on Jl. Matraman Raya No.45. Since its establishment in 1987, this Indonesian restaurant has become a beloved institution, where the nostalgia of traditional Indonesian cuisine meets warm hospitality.

Walking into Handayani Prima is like stepping back in time. The vintage decor tells stories of decades past, evoking a sense of comfort that only an old favorite can provide. If you’re seeking the essence of Indonesia, this is the spot to experience it. The warm ambiance is matched only by the courteous service from a staff renowned for their friendliness and prompt attention.

Among the must-try dishes, the Ayam Goreng, fried chicken fried to perfection, is a standout. Accompany this with the equally famous Satay Kulit Ayam, a delightful chicken skin satay that has garnered rave reviews from patrons like Kiel Constantine, who calls it “very delicious” and a reason to keep returning.

Equally adored is the Gurame Terbang, a crispy, tender fish that graces the tables of many loyal diners, while the Cumi Telur Asin, squid cooked with salted egg, offers a unique flavor experience that's both tender and savory, making it a runner-up favorite among the crowd.

As I savored each bite, I appreciated that while the establishment showcases a nostalgic 80s vibe, the quality of food has stood the test of time. It’s evident in the genuine smiles of the guests and the bustling atmosphere—it’s an invitation not just to eat, but to linger, to share stories, and to support a local business that has deep roots in the community.

Handayani Prima is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where flavors come to life and memories are crafted. Whether you're a local or a visitor craving authentic Indonesian cuisine, this restaurant is a journey worth taking. Be sure to stop by and experience the rich tapestry of flavors, exceptional service, and the cozy ambiance that has charmed so many over the years.

Restaurant legend . One of my favourite place to enjoy old style indonesian food . Must try ordering their Ayam goreng & Satay Kulit ayam . Very delicious!

An old restaurant that served Indonesia cuisines. However, the food are delicious as always. Don't hesitate to stop by and support local business.

It has been ages since I last visited this restaurant. Established in 1987, the interior feels and smells old. It threw us back to the 80s. We ordered the food seen in the pictures. Our favorite was gurame terbang, which was crispy and tender. The runner-up was cumi telur asin, which was tender and tasty. The two others were just okay. Though old, the ambiance was comforting. The services were rather slow, but prompt and courteous. We spent around 523k for three people.

Lamaaaa banget nggak kesini, ternyata masih enak banget. Yes the building and furnitures are old but clean and very well maintained, so you'd get cozy, vintage vibes instead of old or dated. Foods are still delicious, but the service is excellent!! Dear owner, if you read this, please keep & appreciate your staffs (from parking attendance, greeter, waiters) all are friendly, polite, and give prompt service.

The ambient is like in 90's era but in a good way. Their top menu is all about Surabaya cuisine. Somehow the taste is so good but I hope they have a vegetarian menu or personal menu. If you have foreigner friend, you may invite them to try Indonesian menu from this restaurant.

If you like some old fashioned 80-90 ambience. I would suggest you to come here. Classic and delicious food (we order Nasi kecombrang, nasi goreng jawa, nasi goreng kambing, tahu telor and chicken steak), generous portions for them will satisfy your tummy.

Indonesian food. You could try their kol nenek, unique experience. Roasted chicken taste good too. Avocado juice feel fresh

Classic and traditional style of Indonesian restaurant. The taste of the food is actually worth 4½ stars, but I think the place needs some renovation,,, and room fragrance
